Shopify Hydrogen Development in George Town.
Custom Shopify storefronts built on Hydrogen, React and the Storefront API — for brands that need an experience a theme cannot give them.
A Shopify theme is the right answer for most stores, and we build plenty of them. Hydrogen is for the cases where it isn’t: a storefront that has to behave in a way no theme was designed for.
With Hydrogen you keep Shopify’s checkout — the part you never want to rebuild — and take complete control of everything in front of it. We build that front end in React against the Storefront API, and deploy it to Oxygen at the edge.
For George Town brands, we set up Cards, PayPal and Apple Pay at checkout, price in KYD, and keep invoicing DITC-ready — so your store fits how George Town and the rest of Cayman Islands actually buy.
What is Shopify Hydrogen Development?
Shopify Hydrogen is Shopify’s official React framework for building headless storefronts, deployed on Oxygen, its global edge hosting. Mooshfy designs and engineers custom Hydrogen storefronts end to end — architecture, Storefront API integration, front-end build, third-party integrations and deployment — for brands whose requirements have outgrown what a Shopify theme can express.
When Shopify themes aren’t enough
Themes are excellent, and cheaper to build and run. But there is a point where working around a theme’s architecture costs more than replacing it. Growing brands hit it when they need:
- Completely custom storefront experiences
- Advanced product configurators
- Complex animations and interactions
- Custom CMS architecture, with content and commerce in one stack
- Multilingual and RTL experiences
- Advanced personalisation
- Custom APIs and deep third-party integrations
- Complex product discovery and filtering
- Omnichannel experiences beyond the web storefront
That’s where Hydrogen comes in.
Signs you have outgrown the theme
None of these is about Hydrogen. They are what it feels like shortly before a team starts looking for it.
- Your last three projects were all spent working around the theme rather than building on it.
- You need custom logic — bundles, gifting rules, configurators — and the theme will not bend to fit.
- B2B orders arrive by email because there is no real portal with tiered pricing and net terms.
- Every new market means another app, and the app stack is now the slowest thing on the site.
- Your designers have stopped proposing ideas because they know what the theme will reject.
- A campaign day means crossed fingers rather than confidence the store will hold.
Shopify theme vs headless Hydrogen
| Capability | Shopify theme | Hydrogen |
|---|---|---|
| Custom UI | Limited by theme architecture | Highly customisable |
| Performance optimisation | Theme dependent | Custom engineered |
| Advanced interactions | Limited | Excellent |
| Product configurators | Possible but constrained | Fully custom |
| CMS flexibility | Moderate | Highly flexible |
| Custom APIs | Limited | Extensive |
| Complex integrations | Possible | Excellent |
| Multilingual / RTL | Supported | Fully customisable |
| Enterprise experiences | Possible | Ideal for complex requirements |
Hydrogen is not automatically faster than a Shopify theme. A well-built theme can outperform a poorly built Hydrogen storefront. What Hydrogen gives you is control: performance becomes an engineering decision you own, rather than a property of the theme you bought.
Our shopify hydrogen development process.
Discovery
We map the brand, the business requirements and the customer journey, and establish whether Hydrogen is genuinely the right call. Sometimes it isn’t, and we say so.
Architecture
We design the headless architecture and technology stack — data flow, CMS, caching, rendering strategy and where each system’s responsibility ends.
UX / UI
We design the storefront experience around conversion and brand differentiation, not around what a theme happens to allow.
Hydrogen development
We build the storefront in Hydrogen and React against the Shopify Storefront API, with Shopify’s native checkout kept intact.
Integrations
We connect the CMS, ERP, CRM, PIM, analytics, payments and whatever else the business actually runs on.
Launch & optimisation
We test, deploy to Oxygen, monitor real-user performance and keep optimising after launch.
Projects this is built for.
Headless without the usual risks
Checkout stays Shopify
We go headless everywhere except the money page. Shopify’s PCI-compliant, high-converting checkout is untouched — so the riskiest part of your store never changes.
Your admin does not change
Your team keeps working in the same Shopify admin, with the same products, orders and reports. The rebuild is in front of the backend, not through it.
No vendor lock-in
You own the repository, the Shopify account, the domain and the hosting from the first commit. If you leave us, everything keeps running and another team can pick it up.
No rankings lost
A migration ships with a full 301 map and a rehearsal against a staging domain before launch. URL structure carries over.
Who actually works on it
A Hydrogen build is not one developer. These are the roles involved — senior people doing the work, not a layer above it.
- Headless architect — stack, data flow, rendering and caching strategy
- Front-end engineer — React and Hydrogen component build
- Storefront API specialist — GraphQL, cart, catalogue modelling
- Integrations engineer — CMS, ERP, CRM, PIM and third-party APIs
- Performance engineer — Core Web Vitals on real devices
- QA — cross-device, checkout and launch rehearsal
When Hydrogen is the wrong answer
We would rather lose this project than sell you an architecture you have to live with for three years. Do not go headless if:
Your theme is doing its job
If you are not routinely fighting it, headless buys you cost and complexity and nothing else. Spend the budget on CRO instead.
You have no engineering capacity
A Hydrogen storefront is a web application. Someone has to own it after launch — us on retainer, or your own team. If neither is true, a theme is safer.
You are chasing a Lighthouse score
Theme speed problems are usually app bloat and images, and both are fixable for a fraction of this cost. Rebuilding the front end to fix a score is the expensive way round.
Your catalogue and rules are simple
Straightforward products, standard checkout, one market — a theme will serve you better and cost less to run.
The timeline is under six weeks
Architecture, integrations and QA do not compress well. A rushed headless build is the one that ends up slower than the theme it replaced.
If two or more of those describe you, say so on the call and we will scope a theme build instead — or tell you honestly that you do not need us at all.

Here's exactly what we build.
Every piece below is part of your shopify hydrogen development — done for you, included, never bolted on as an extra.
Custom Hydrogen storefronts
We build a storefront from architecture up, instead of bending a pre-built theme into a shape it was never designed for.
Shopify Storefront API
We wire products, collections, cart and customer data straight into Shopify’s commerce infrastructure over GraphQL.
React development
We build interactive experiences on a modern React architecture your own engineers can read and extend.
Headless commerce
We separate the customer-facing experience from the Shopify back end, while keeping Shopify’s native checkout.
Custom product experiences
We build configurators, personalisation, product builders and interactive shopping experiences that themes constrain.
Hydrogen performance
We engineer for Core Web Vitals, loading behaviour and technical SEO — measured on real devices, not a lab score.
International commerce
We support multiple countries, currencies and languages, including right-to-left experiences.
Custom integrations
We connect Shopify to ERP, CRM, PIM, CMS, payment, logistics and third-party APIs.
Clear deliverables. Fixed scope.
No vague retainers. You know exactly what ships — and it's yours to keep.
- Technical discovery and scope assessment
- Headless commerce architecture and stack decision
- Hydrogen storefront build in React
- Storefront API and GraphQL integration
- CMS, ERP, CRM and third-party integrations
- Oxygen deployment, monitoring and post-launch optimisation
Shopify Hydrogen Development that fits how George Town pays.
Cayman shoppers pay by card and PayPal, priced in Cayman Islands Dollars — a premium, trusted checkout.
Every Hydrogen storefront is engineered around the business.
There is no package price for this work, because there is no standard scope. Custom Hydrogen projects start with a technical discovery and scope assessment — we look at your current Shopify setup, the integrations involved and what the storefront actually has to do, then come back with a written scope and a fixed number.
About shopify hydrogen development.
What is Shopify Hydrogen?
Hydrogen is Shopify’s official React framework for building headless storefronts. You build the customer-facing site yourself in React, pull commerce data from Shopify’s Storefront API, and deploy to Oxygen, Shopify’s global edge hosting — while keeping Shopify’s native checkout.
Is Shopify Hydrogen better than a Shopify theme?
Not inherently — it is different, and more expensive to build and maintain. A theme is the better choice for most stores. Hydrogen is better when your requirements exceed what a theme’s architecture can express: custom configurators, deep integrations, bespoke interactions or a custom CMS layer.
When should a Shopify store move to Hydrogen?
When you are repeatedly paying to work around your theme rather than building on it. If your last three projects were all fighting theme constraints, the architecture is the problem. If your theme is doing its job, stay on it.
How much does a Shopify Hydrogen website cost?
Considerably more than a theme build, and it varies with scope. Hydrogen projects are quoted after a technical discovery rather than sold as a package — the integrations, the CMS and the custom functionality drive the number far more than page count does. We give you a written scope and a fixed price before any work starts.
Can Hydrogen work with Shopify Plus?
Yes, and it is a common pairing. Plus gives you the commerce capabilities — B2B, multiple storefronts, checkout extensibility, higher API limits — and Hydrogen gives you full control of the front end on top of them.
Can you migrate an existing Shopify store to Hydrogen?
Yes. Your products, customers, orders and checkout stay exactly where they are in Shopify — a Hydrogen migration replaces the front end, not the back end. We handle URL structure and redirects so search rankings carry over.
Can Hydrogen integrate with an ERP?
Yes. Hydrogen is a React application, so it can talk to any system that exposes an API — ERP, CRM, PIM, OMS, WMS. We also handle integrations at the Shopify layer where that is the more robust place for them.
Can Hydrogen support multiple languages?
Yes. Hydrogen supports Shopify Markets for multi-country and multi-currency, and because you control the front end you can structure localisation, routing and translated content however the business needs.
Can Hydrogen support RTL languages?
Yes. Right-to-left layouts are a front-end concern, and with Hydrogen the front end is yours — so Arabic, Hebrew and Urdu storefronts can be laid out properly rather than mirrored approximately.
Can you build custom product configurators with Hydrogen?
Yes, and it is one of the strongest reasons to choose Hydrogen. Multi-step configurators, live previews, conditional option logic and made-to-order products are all straightforward in React and awkward inside a theme.
Does Hydrogen improve Shopify website speed?
It can, but it is not automatic. Hydrogen server-renders at the edge on Oxygen, which helps, and it removes the app-script bloat that slows many themes. But performance is an outcome of how the storefront is engineered — a careless Hydrogen build can be slower than a well-built theme.
What is the difference between Hydrogen and Shopify themes?
A theme is Liquid rendered by Shopify, inside Shopify’s architecture. Hydrogen is a React application you own, running on Oxygen, that reads commerce data from Shopify over the Storefront API. Themes are faster and cheaper to build; Hydrogen gives you control that themes cannot.
