1. Audit and map every URL
Export your full list of live URLs — products, categories, CMS pages, and blog content. Magento's URL structure differs from Shopify's, so this map is the foundation for redirects.
2. Plan 301 redirects for everything
Every old Magento URL needs a 301 redirect to its Shopify equivalent. Category → collection, product → product, CMS page → page. Miss this and you throw away years of ranking equity.
3. Export and clean your data
Magento stores accumulate messy data over the years. Migrate deliberately:
- Products, variants (configurable/simple), and images
- Categories → Shopify collections

Carry over title tags, meta descriptions, and heading structure. Match or improve them page by page — this is where large stores commonly slip.
6. Test thoroughly before launch
On a password-protected store, verify:
- Redirects resolve correctly at scale
- Checkout works with local payments in Brussels
- Analytics, pixels, and integrations fire
- Large collections and filters behave
7. Launch and monitor closely
Submit the new sitemap, watch Search Console for crawl errors, and track rankings for several weeks. On big catalogues, watch for redirect gaps and indexation issues.
